I started this painting in the spring of 2020 in response to the tragic events that were unfolding throughout Nova Scotia. A number of my family members were much too close to these events and it was and remains heartbreaking. The 22 stars represent those we lost in the Portapique tragedy. The 7 flying fish represent those we lost in the helicopters off of the Greece coast and the snow bird in BC. The bird flying above the fisher represents the little boy who went missing and has yet to be found. I put this painting away as it made me sad looking at. A year later I decided with some trepidation to share it in honour of these souls.
